My Favourite Hair Fixer Uppers for Drab Hair.. to FAB Hair

I don't know about everyone else.. but I feel like I've been stuck in holiday mode! In fact, I seem to be stuck in the last decade still -- I keep writing 2009 on all my notes. Time to get with the program huh?? =P School is back in full swing now and I have to say I'm having the hardest time getting up in the mornings. After sleeping in ALL winter break, getting up again at 7:00am is HARD. Seriously hard... On those mornings when I'm in a rush rush rush and don't got a lot of time to fix up my hair, this has been my lifesaver :D

Open Sundaes
Chocolate Shake Hair Powder
That's right, chocolate powder for my hair!

It comes in a container made to look like that for cocoa powder, with the sifter and all.
What this chocolate hair powder looks like.
Doesn't it look like chocolate powder?!
Well, it not only looks but SMELLS just like chocolate powder! If you gave this to someone, I'm not sure they can tell the difference. I can't stop sniffing my hair after I use this. It just smells sooo good!!

What you do with the powder is massage a small amount into your roots and it will absorb the excess oils there. You will gradually feel your hair gaining some volume again as the chocolate powder dries up whatever grease is in your hair.

The active ingredient in this powder is good ol' corn starch!
I love this stuff, it works like a charm and makes me smell delicious like chocolate cake <3

They have a lot of other cute products available on their site.
I think Lush lovers will actually enjoy these products a lot.

Bon Bon Bath Melts

You can get all of these products online at

An alternative product I use is...
Baby Powder
Back in highschool, when I couldn't afford anything else, this is what I used.  It's cheap and smells great. If you don't like baby powder smell, there are unscented versions. Plus it also comes in a convenient travel size container with a sifter.

I liked using this after gym class in high school, 'cause we never had time to shower after class and most of the time, we still had HALF A DAY of classes to sit through before we could go home and shower... I know, gross right?! I don't know how I would've survived without this stuff. On the days when I'm in a rush now or wake up late for class, this stuff has been my lifesaver. Definitely a must-have hair product for me!

The active ingredient in baby powder is talc,
which is comparable to corn starch.

Recently, I discovered another hair fixer upper to use from Lush.
"Dusting this fluffy powder all over leaves you twinkling, smelling sweet and feeling pretty. Tiny gold and iridescent sparkles sprinkle all over your skin while cornstarch absorbs moisture and leaves you feeling silky to the touch. "

This product isn't actually sold as a hair product but looking at the ingredients, I noticed it's featured ingredient is actually corn starch. I thought, why not try it out?? So I did.. and it worked perfectly well! This also smells absolutely HEAVENLY!! <3 And it doesn't matter if I accidently spill some onto my hands, shoulders, neck, whatever.. it leaves a pretty sparkle on your skin :)

Of course, if you don't have any of the above products handy...

...you can obviously just use corn starch itself!
I'm sure you'll be able to find this lying around somewhere in your house. This will definitely work just as well in putting some OOMPH! back into your hair. Plus, it's cheap ;)

Thanks so much for dropping by and reading!

Coming up, I'll have a couple of hauls left over from the holidays and also a bunch of TAGS that I was lucky to be tagged with by some lovely girls. <3

Until next time,

take care!
♥ Anita

I have been searching for a good dry shampoo for a while! I was going to try baptiste because I heard a lot of great things about it, and now I'm thinking about Lush dusting powder! I totally never thought to use it as a dry shampoo until your post, so that's pretty neat :) It gives me a reason to go to lush again haha <3

baby powder did not work for me...the smell is bad and i could never distribute it well enough to hide the white cast ><

Oh that first choc powder looks very cool, but its in Canada only! Gah! I just got the Batiste spray and its pretty good, but the cuteness of that first powder you posted is very appealing =)

i love ur blog as well! definitely following :) i wish i had saw this post before i went out to buy oscar brandi's dry shampoo... it smells awful! not to mention expensive!

@AudreyAllure - i agree! i like to take my sweet time too when i'm getting ready to go out ;) but for school i just want to look decent enough so that if everyone is staring at me when i walk into class late, at least they're not staring at me with gross hair haha!

@Jess - thanks girl :) you definitely gotta try out the Lush stuff! i didn't think i would like their stuff before 'cause i couldn't get past the overwhelming scent coming out of their store.. but their products are actually really nice and everything is freshly made :D

@Shop N' Chomp - isn't it?! when i saw it i couldn't resist buying it right away. i get suckered in by cute packaging like that :S i'm glad it's proven itself worthy ;)

@LilliChantilly - i have a bottle of Baptiste and it does work! it's good at taking the greasiness away but for some reason doesn't give me any volume like it's advertised to. probably works differently for people depending on your hair type. powder actually helps to poof up my hair so i've been using powder every since :) definitely check out the Lush dusting powder! they really should advertise it as a dry shampoo because it works so well! :)

@Babybubblz - yeaaa you do have to take some time brushing the baby powder out. a little bit goes a long way! i purchased Open Sundaes stuff at The Bay (it's like Sears) when they were carrying the line there last summer. but i believe they have an online store where they DO ship internationally! :)

@Angelique - i know! i was so happy when i discovered their products :D

@xphoebelinax - YES! this stuff smells exactly like chocolate! it also comes in 2 other scents: strawberry shake and lemon shake and they both smell just as good. i bought the chocolate shake because it's meant for dark hair and that's what i have :)

@Cristina BarbieLuvsMac - thanks girl :) the chocolate powder and lush dusting powder are definitely my favourites!

@Ee Von - thanks! when i first heard about corn starch, i was skeptical but boy does it work :D it's great stuff!

@Lisa - where do you live girl? from what i know, they do ship internationally from their online store :)

@Kylie - aw thanks girl :) i've heard about the oscar blandi dry shampoo as well! never bought it b/c it's so pricey though. sorry to hear it didn't work out :( you'd expect smthn better from a product that's so expensive.

Hey girl, I live in Cali! I just have issues with paying for shipping lol. I don't care how much the stuff costs, but damn it to pay shipping. The Batiste has been working, so I'll think bout the other stuff when I run out. Thanks!

*Anita* said...

@Lisa - That's true, shipping costs can really add up! I like how the Batiste is readily available at the drugstore so you can always find it. I just wished it worked for me. Unfortunately it didn't give my hair any volume for some reason! But I'm glad it's working for you :) xx

Great post! I love the chocolate powder ones. I would probably eat it knowing me. I'm such a chocaholic =P I normally use the dry shampoo in a can and I just spray all over my roots, especially since I have bad regrowths, it makes my black roots look less black. =P I used to do the baby powder as well in highschool. I still love baby powder. Smells great!
